RDP is a spray-dried polymer dispersion, commonly vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE). When the dry mix is wetted it redisperses, and as the mortar dries it forms a polymer film through the cement matrix. This raises adhesion, including after water immersion, and adds flexibility and cohesion, helping tiles hold on dense surfaces and putty resist cracking. Dosage and grade, from hard to flexible, depend on the class of product you make.

MHEC (methylhydroxyethyl cellulose, also called HEMC) is a cellulose ether that holds water in the fresh mortar. Without it, porous substrates and hot weather pull water out before the cement hydrates, weakening the bond. It also thickens the mix, improves trowelling, extends open time and helps resist tile slip on walls. Grades differ by viscosity and surface treatment, so match the grade to your formulation and application method.

Untreated hydrophilic fumed silica thickens through hydrogen bonding between its surface silanol groups and works efficiently in non-polar and moderately polar liquids. Surface-treated hydrophobic grades are preferred in polar systems such as epoxies and polyurethanes, where hydrophilic silica thickens less, and where low moisture pick-up and storage stability matter. Share your polymer, filler level and target viscosity so a suitable HDK grade can be offered.

Silane-terminated polymers (STPs), such as GENIOSIL STP-E polyethers, carry alkoxysilane end groups. Exposed to air humidity, these groups hydrolyse and condense into a siloxane network, so the sealant or adhesive cures at room temperature without isocyanates. Formulations usually also contain a water scavenger for storage stability, an adhesion-promoting silane and a catalyst. STP hybrids are used in construction joint sealants, flooring adhesives and general assembly bonding.

Wet-end chemicals are added to the pulp before the sheet forms. Retention aids keep fines and filler in the sheet, drainage aids speed water removal on the wire, internal sizes such as AKD or ASA control water and ink penetration, dry- and wet-strength resins raise sheet strength, and deposit-control agents limit pitch and stickies. The right combination depends on furnish, pH, filler and machine speed.
