Drums, Bags, IBCs or Tankers? Choosing Packaging for Industrial Chemicals

Match the pack to your plant, your volume and the product

Packaging is usually the last line of an enquiry and the first thing your stores team notices. The right choice depends on three things: the product, how much you use, and what your plant can receive.

Powders and granules

25 kg or 50 kg bags

The most common pack for pigments, salts, fillers and many additives. HDPE woven bags with a liner, or multi-wall paper bags, are easy to stack and dose by hand. Ask for palletised and shrink-wrapped loads if you unload with a forklift.

Jumbo bags (FIBC)

Typically 500 kg to 1 MT. They suit regular, high-volume users with a hoist or forklift and a bag discharge station, and cut down on manual handling and empty-bag waste.

Liquids

Carboys and small drums

20 to 50 litre carboys or drums fit trials, lab-scale work and low-volume additives.

200 litre drums

HDPE or MS drums are the standard for solvents, resins and many process chemicals. They are easy to store in a bunded area and move with a drum trolley.

IBCs

Intermediate bulk containers hold about 1,000 litres in one footprint, with a bottom valve for easy transfer. A good step up when you are using several drums a week.

Bulk tankers

For large, regular volumes with storage tanks on site. Tankers need the right unloading point, earthing and a tank cleared for the product.

Questions to answer before you choose

  • How much do you use in a month, and how much can you store safely?
  • Do you have a forklift, hoist, pump or bag discharger?
  • Does the product need protection from moisture, light or heat?
  • Is the material classified as dangerous goods, and does your storage meet the SDS requirements?
  • For exports: what does the destination country require on labels and documents?
Not sure? Tell us how you use the material and how you receive it. We will suggest the pack that fits, and confirm what the manufacturer can supply.

Every consignment we dispatch is labelled and packed to the manufacturer's standard, with the COA and SDS attached. Share your requirement and our team will get back to you within one business day.
